Challenge - Black and White Photography

Challenge Topic:  Black and White Photography

Posting Date:  Saturday, March 9, 2013

Online Background Information:

Instructions:
Prepare one to three of your own photographic images that illustrate the designated topic. You may take new photos or use ones in your archives. It’s your choice! Publish your post on the specified date.

It would be helpful to include some background information (e.g., how you took the images, post-processing details, camera settings). It would also be valuable to also show a comparison between the images in color and the black/white transformations.

  1. Okay here is just a suggestion. Shouldn't we wait until the day of the entry to put our URL's in? That way we can put in the specific one that goes right to the post with the pictures in it. If we just put our homepage then we won't be able to go back in the future to past posts because they will all go to the home page of every one's blog. Did that make any sense? LOL!

    1. I think we need the flexibility to do the linkups either way. There will be some challenge days, for example, that a few of us may not have computer access (e.g., traveling). So we would be unable to insert our exact blog post addresses in the link gadget.

I'm trying to keep rules to a minimum. I'll go back and extend out the link submissions schedule for a couple of days after the challenge date. This will provide participants the opportunity to delete any general linkups and add a specific one.

    2. That sounds like a plan. I forget that people actually travel around. LOL!

  4. Hi Donna
From past experience, I think Kim's suggestion makes sense to only enter the URL from the challenge post, not a blog site. If someone posts now for the first challenge, they can obviously enter their link right away and people that post closer to the date can do it then. Allowing a time frame of a couple of days before or after each challenge date should make it easy for everyone to link up.
    My 2 cents. :-)

  10. Hi Donna, you are getting it together. So glad I found you. I have been doing Sepia Saturday weekly for a long time with old b/w photos but running out. Hey seems like I wrote this once before. May I had already left a comment. Whatever, I am up for today and look forward to this. Some of the entries I already know and Lavendar Cottage has a good suggestion. Since we all take photos all the time you might find doing it more often would work. Just a suggestion. Blessings

    1. Thank you! I will have to forgo any consideration of a weekly challenge, unfortunately. My life is already busy enough, LOL. As it was, I had to think long and hard to finally decide that I was up to the work being a hostess of a monthly challenge.

Several folks have suggested that we use direct links to posts. I was trying to offer some latitude in case people where traveling or otherwise indisposed on the challenge date. But it seems that we have a bit more than average problems right out of the gate with posts being unavailable. We'll be switching to direct post linkups beginning with the next challenge.

  11. This is a great idea and I hope to join next month. Black and White images always look more atmospheric to me. Take care. Chel x

  12. I'm apologizing for not reading the rules! I hate breaking them and I broke them in spades (too many pictures). I'll do better next time. In fact, since the topic is "simplicity," I'll post only one. What a great beginning for your party! It was fun.
